Thomas R. Coffey, Jr. -- Co-Owner & Operations Director

Thomas “Chip” Coffey, Jr. is a veteran, a former Georgia State Patrol Trooper and a groundbreaking martial arts practitioner and instructor. CST is a product of his passion and vision for elite comprehensive security services.

Shortly after graduating from high-school, Coffey joined the Navy and was selected to serve in the Ceremonial Honor Guard as a Casket Bearer in Washington, DC. In the Honor Guard, he performed Full Honors Military Funerals at Arlington National Cemetery.  The mission of the Naval Honor Guard is to exemplify Ceremonial excellence by each new generation of Navy elite carrying the fallen elite to their final resting ground. While in Washington, Coffey performed ceremonies at the White House, the Pentagon and the U.S. Navy Yard.

After an Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Coffey was selected in November 2012 through a rigorous screening process for the 92nd Georgia State Patrol Trooper School, from which only 23 Troopers — out of hundreds of applicants — graduated. He was deployed to Post 48 in Atlanta, where his territory comprised Fulton, Dekalb, Clayton and Cobb Counties.

While receiving and analyzing state-of-the-art law-enforcement training, Coffey saw a need for more comprehensive training methods and use of tactical resources to benefit officers. He wanted no perceived professional conflict of interest, and thus felt it was best to pursue his vision outside direct employment with the Patrol.

In July 2014, Coffey resigned to fulfill his passion to create a company with a focus on leveraging his years of martial arts and military experience to provide a new and constantly evolving level of training and education to law enforcement. He left the Patrol in high standing and formed CST.

Coffey’s P.O.S.T.-Certification and all of its accompanying credentials are evidence of his passion, experience and abilities in providing and coordinating security services and education. A list of these P.O.S.T. credentials is available upon request.

Coffey is a second-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under legendary coach and competitor Roberto Traven, and has been teaching his own personal system for over 10 years. He began training at age 17 and has competed on international, state and local levels. In addition to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, his training includes Judo, Muay Thai, boxing and wrestling. Coffey has maintained brick-and-mortar martial arts schools over the years, and has been retained frequently to teach classes and seminars in  traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, self-defense, combatives and mixed martial arts (“MMA”).

Coffey and his partners have put together a team built on expertise, credentials and credibility to meet any security need. He insists that CST will always operate with the same core values that he learned in service — Honor, Courage and Commitment.
